short update

Just a short update, my office has moved to a new building and between the move and getting ready for the new fiscal year, my life has been pretty busy revolving around work. On the plus side, my weight loss has resumed again finally! And I'm still walking - the pedometer motivates me pretty well. I'm not where I want to be - it will likely take over a year to get to where I want to be health-wise, but I have lost close to 15 lbs from my weight last fall, and will be continuing down this journey. More importantly to me, I'm generally able to walk for over an hour without any breathing issues (except when I'm getting sick) and I'm now able to climb several flights of stairs in a row without stopping to catch my breathe which is a HUGE improvement. Not needing to use my inhaler after running will likely never happen, but not needing it to climb to the 3rd floor apartment of my friend is still great news and I'll take it :-) I'm trying to choose the battles that mean the most for me, and since running is not a part of my life, but stairs are, that's the battle I'll fight!

and my shins hate me...

So, I'm back up to walking 10,000 steps a day (about 5 miles), and I like reaching that goal. However, due to the time I had taken off from walking during the winter, I currently am going through the shin splint stage again . The good news is that since I'm doing most of my steps on my treadmill, I can slow down to let me shins relax a bit, rest them a few minutes, and then speed back up fairly quickly without needing to worry about uphill/downhill changes. The bad news is that the treadmill is at a slight angle, which aggravates my shin splints in the first place. If I recall correctly, it's going to take about another week to walk through them at my current rate of walking speed (3.2 mph) and then I can speed up a bit more. My goal is to get to 4 mph, though honestly I'll be happy with anything over 3.5.
